ECLSS - Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities and Qualifications

* Prepare manufacturing drawings to ANSI Y14.5M standards using GD&T for manufacturability and repeatability
* Work with manufacturing teams to build and test rapid prototypes of designs
* Hold design reviews and presentations among peers to gain design feedback
* Work with structural analysis engineers to verify loads and stresses before fabrication
* Troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues
* Contribute to multiple projects involving development of liquid and gas treatment and handling in life support systems for spacecraft
* Work closely with multiple department teams to accomplish ECLSS design and development goals
* Solve difficult problems using creative design solutions and a broad range of experience
* Package systems and components in visually appealing and functional manner to satisfy crew/customer interface requirements
* Perform related analysis (simple FEA) and classical hand calculations to determine if design meets functional/performance specifications and optimization of design
* Contributes to document management standardization process
* Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or equivalent engineering field processes
* CAD experience and two to five years of engineering experience
* GT&T Training and proficiency in SolidWorks
* Comfortable with hands on work, a self-starter with good written and oral communication skills
* Experience in working with custom fabrication of aircraft or other high performance vehicles
* Experience with liquid pumps, valves and conductivity, pH sensors, wastewater processing design and engineering a plus
* Additive manufacturing experience
* Other duties as assigned
