The Industrial Engineer works under the general direction of the Engineering Manager

or designee within the Aerosystems Enterprise performance group while aligned with the goals and objectives of Site Management. Interacts with the Aerosystems IE/CI organization to ensure process excellence, consistency and the uninterrupted flow of data. Is responsible for a wide diversity of industrial engineering activities of broad technical and organizational scope for assigned programs, manufacturing cells and/or functional areas. Operates with a minimum of Supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Performs a variety of analytical activities such as; scrap analysis, time studies, material cost analysis, and throughput studies to identify quantify and prioritize areas for operational performance improvement throughout the organization
* Aligns and focuses improvement activities with Lean goals including cost reduction, lead time and inventory reduction, increased velocity, improved facility utilization and layout, reduced rework, root cause analysis, total productive maintenance, and improved material flow and handling.
* Acts as an agent for change to challenge the status quo of business and manufacturing practices.
* Supports the continuous improvement team by justifying, participating in and/or leading continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen events, 3P events, and other lean techniques to drive operational change within the organization
* Creates performance driven metrics and maintains trend analysis to ensure effectiveness of process improvement implementation and quantifies the improvements
* Creates, evaluates, updates, and maintains operational standards
* Conducts man power planning analysis and capacity analysis for existing and newly proposed operational areas/cells/programs for current and expected customer demand
* Supports the IE/CI Aerosystems team by creating and maintaining company-wide standard work, collectively develops manufacturing and business processes, ensures lessons learned are communicated to all Aerosystems sites.
* Supports the capital equipment process, including coordinating equipment planning, preparing requests, justification of expenditures, improving processes, and measuring ROI and other results
* Supports the creation of manufacturing plans in a timely manner by providing, cell layout designs, manpower planning, utilization, etc., during the proposal/quote phase and special projects
* Assists in training employees on Lean and other continuous improvement methods
* Performs job duties safely with the goal of no accidents or injuries to self or others
* Complies with all the company’s policies, procedures and work rules

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or related field, preferably fields such as manufacturing systems engineering, mechanical engineering; or significant equivalent work experience deemed acceptable by the KAMAN Aerosystems Resource and Process Manager.
* Efficient use of a personal computer and Microsoft EXCEL is a must. Proficient in formatting data in EXCEL (pivot tables, macros, and simple Visual Basic programing). Working knowledge of ERP software (Epicor E9 or newer) preferred. Other software including modeling and simulation is a plus
* Broad knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques, tools, metrics, and how to apply them to solve manufacturing issues (value stream mapping, Heijunka scheduling, 5S, Gemba, flow, key performance indicators, Kanban)
* Effective written and oral communication skills are required. Accurate interpretation and presentation of data to multiple levels of management is expected
* (0) to (5) years’ experience in an industrial, manufacturing engineering, or continuous improvement capacity.
* Good interpersonal skills to foster harmonious and productive working relationships with cross-functional departments (manufacturing, engineering, materials, etc.)
* Consistently exhibits a positive attitude focused on fulfilling the overall mission, goals and objectives of the organization and takes proactive measures to institute changes / improvements in pursuit of these aspirations.
* Ability to be a self-empowered, self-directed and highly motivated requiring minimal day to day supervision in performing the essential duties & responsibilities listed above.
* Ability to read and understand complex blueprints, technical packages and specifications
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
