Group Legal is the primary provider of legal services to the Cathay Pacific Group with a mandate to provide legal services in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Group Legal is also responsible for managing all legal spend across the CPA Group.

Group Legal is seeking a high caliber lawyer to join this dynamic and growing team. As Legal Counsel, you will be working in a fast-changing and interesting industry, and you will primarily be responsible for advising on areas of employment, disputes and litigation. This is an excellent opportunity to build an in-house career and to assist in some of Hong Kong’s most high-profile and interesting legal issues.

Key Responsibilities

* Providing legal advice on a full range of non-contentious and contentious employment matters.

* Managing a wide range of disputes and claims including contractual, employment, customers, suppliers, employees’ compensation, personal injuries, data privacy and discrimination claims.

* Managing legal actions at all court levels from Tribunal to Court of Final Appeal.

* Handling investigations by local or overseas authorities such as the Labour Department, Police, Customs, Equal Opportunities Commission, Overseas Department of Transportation, Human Rights Commission.

* Monitoring quality of legal services provided by external law firms.

* Keeping management and the business abreast on legal updates and changes.

* Managing the legal budget and external counsel spend.

* Assisting management in identifying and mitigating against legal risks.

* Conducting legal research.

* Assisting departments in formulating policies and initiatives.

* Organizing and delivering training and briefings on legal topics.

Requirements

* Hong Kong or commonwealth qualified solicitor with 6 to 10 years’ post qualification experience in employment law or litigation gained from a reputable law firm.Previous in-house experience is not required.

* Fluent in English.Chinese language skills would be an advantage.

* An effective communicator to interact with senior people with polished interpersonal skills.

* Commercial minded and able to make practical evaluation of risks.

* Able to work and solve problems independently with minimum supervision.

* A good team player and able to work proactively and independently.

* Motivated and able to work under time pressure.
