Role Summary/Purpose
L3 SSG has an opportunity for a Thermal Engineer to join our talented engineering organization. Thermal Engineers work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to create the best overall system design including thermal design, analysis and test of optical systems operating in harsh space and ground environments. Specific responsibilities include conductive, convectiv and radiative analyses, understanding of heat pipes, radiative heat transfer and thermal control hardware design (thermal blankets, surface treatments, heater tapes, thermistors) and the interaction with optical structures in order to minimize optical errors and achieve operational temperatures. You will create and analyze systems using state of the art custom software in conjunction with Thermal Desktop and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) packages.
Essential Responsibilities
* Concurrent thermal design and analysis within a program team structure often interfacing directly with customer technical leads.
* Creating and analyzing design concepts using FEA & thermal analysis software.
* Documenting and presenting design & analysis results to customers at formal gate and design reviews.
* Development and execution of thermal test plans to manufacture and test payload sensor systems.
* Support a variety of programs/projects often concurrently.
Qualifications
Qualifications/ Requirements
* MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of experience.
* Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills for interfacing with senior management and customers.
* Strong self-motivation
* Ability to work well in a team environment
* Leadership potential
* CAD (AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD), FEA (FEMAP/NASTRAN), and some programming skills experience are desirable but not required.
* Successful candidates must meet eligibility requirements to access classified information.
