Moog in East Aurora, New York is looking for an Optical Engineer (Laser/Optical Metrology Systems) to lead the development and implementation of complex laser and optical manufacturing systems to support Moog complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, mechanical and electro-pneumatic components. Here’s what you can expect to do as an Optical Engineer (Laser/Optical Metrology Systems) at Moog …. * Research, develop and implement laser and optical technologies to support Moog advanced manufacturing and product inspection techniques. * Participate in the planning and execution of lab experimentation to develop and validate critical parameters and specifications for Laser, LED and other optical imaging/processing systems. * Apply hands-on skills in the lab to develop laser, optical, optomechanical, and/or optoelectronic test methods and fixturing for critical parameter optimization & validation of optical imaging and laser systems. * Direct & assist others to perform the optical alignment, optimization & validation testing of optical imaging systems, and support the debug & troubleshooting of optical imaging systems using a range of laboratory test equipment and fixtures (cameras, radiometers, interferometers, and LabVIEW-based software). * Perform statistical analysis of lab data and demonstrate correlation with theoretical calculations. * Contribute to the analysis, conceptual design, development, and test of complex control hardware used on military, commercial and NASA vehicles * Operate as part of a design/development team, which includes other Department engineers * Contribute to the evolution of the conceptual design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing, using prescribed methods, performing specific portions of the overall program effort * For training and developmental purposes, the incumbent may receive assignments that include some work that is typically of a higher level. YOU WILL NEED …. * Bachelors of Science Degree in Physics or Optical Engineering or an equivalent engineering degree with 4 years of experience in the optical and/or laser system development; or Master’s Degree, preferably in Physics or Optical Engineering or an equivalent engineering degree. . * Ability to utilize and quickly learn optical and laser system application * Basic knowledge of closed loop control systems, mechanical hardware design * Ability to develop, implement test design of experiments * Knowledge of laser and other optical metrology systems is helpful, including interferometry, focus variation, and confocal systems and development. * Software development and integration of laser and other optical systems is helpful. * Ability to work in a matrix based organization and take initiative to contact and coordinate with other groups when a problem solution so requires. * Excellent interpersonal, presentation skills, energetic, and self-starter * Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal * Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and experience in working with external constituencies * Strong organizational skills * Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business need * Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments * Ability to travel domestic and/or internationally – approximately 5%. * Ability to relocate to East Aurora, NY.
