Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Project Engineer with an electrical/avionics background to join our growing Huntsville, Alabama location.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day engineering activities of assigned Defense programs. You will work directly with engineers and personnel across various company centers of excellence and in close collaboration with the Program Manager(s) and Program Chief Engineer(s).

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for engineering design and overall coordination of various/assigned company engineering projects. In this capacity the project engineer is responsible for making sure that the delivered products meet performance requirements and customer expectation commensurate with company contractual requirements and obligations. Evaluates program technical risk in relation to available resources and capabilities based on input from functional engineering organizations, performs project coordination within engineering and interface with manufacturing, quality, test, procurement and program office in assigned areas to ensure the program plan is attained and balance the program technical scope with cost and schedule.

40% - Lead and manage engineering tasks in support of Engineering development and/or product production in collaboration with company staff assigned to the program from various centers of excellence, supplier and customers.

30% - Generate Integrated master plan, Integrated master schedules, and risk plan (control/mitigation).

20% - Provide support, generate and conduct technical design reviews and lead root cause and corrective actions.

10% - Travel to other Aerojet Rocketdyne, customer or supplier sites for design reviews and technical interface meetings.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering is preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of experience managing aerospace and defense development programs.

Additional Requirements:

* Experience in use of computer aided design and analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite, proficient in Microsoft Project.
* US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

The overarching responsibility of this role coordinates/manages all phases of the engineering design and development lifecycle. The following are desired qualifications:

* Well-developed skill in a related field of engineering such as electrical, mechanical packaging, systems engineering, software or test engineering. Electrical is preferred.
* Thorough and demonstrate proficiency in effective planning of complex engineering development plans.
* Ability to work as a team leader, and when needed, as an individual contributor.
* Demonstrated proficiency in completing programs within cost and schedule objectives.
* Excellent understanding of Earned Value Measurement System (EVMS) and its application in managing programs.
* Capable of generating and maintaining IMP and resource loaded IMS.
* Knowledge of budgeting procedures and techniques – Prepare engineering basis of estimate.
* Provide resource forecasting needs to meet project cost and schedule constraints.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and mitigate program risks.
* Be able to balance technical scope, customer expectations and business interests.
* Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
* Ability to write clear and high quality letters and memos and program reports.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationship with peers and those from other company centers of excellence.
* Experience in creating and briefing program status program managers, executive management and customers.
* Understanding and implementation of design to cost principles.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. The employee must have the stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. He/she may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds. The assignments may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending. Have vision acuity to read printed materials and computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions). While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels and may require donning personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. The candidate may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization. May require the ability to travel by air or auto.
